PSVR Patent Shows Eye-Tracking to Address Motion Sickness

new psvr patent

A patent that was filed by Sony in 2017 has been published this week, which seems to be based on solving the problem with motion sickness that remains with many VR users.

This patent is built around an idea for a system that’s designed around “virtual reality sickness.” The headset includes various devices built-in, a wide array of sensors in particular that all seem designed to detect signs of distress from the user. There’s breathing sensors, blood pressure sensors, a microphone, eye-tracking cameras, just all sorts of components based on keeping tabs on health metrics.

In reporting on this patent, Upload VR speculates that this patent in particular is learning more towards detecting warning signs than changing the overall PSVR experience. However, it particularly zones in on the eye-tracking cameras, which are apparently a big part of VR progress, especially with respect to performance.

While this patent is on the older side, it is tangible proof that Sony is continuing to work on solutions for the future of VR, and shows that recent comments from CEO Kenichiro Yoshida have some muscle behind them.

In other PSVR news, Sony recently announced a new set of bundles, which update and also add some variety to what comes packed in with a new PSVR set.
