Everyone has been wondering what the heck is going on with PSX this year. As it turns out, the answer is literally nothing, in our neck of the woods. During a guest appearance on the PlayStation Blogcast, Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden confirmed that the PlayStation Experience event will not be held in North America in 2018, largely due to the fact that there isn’t enough to show off right now.
Here’s the full quote explaining the decision, as pulled by IGN:
We won’t have it in the States this year. The reasons behind that really are we don’t have… we have a lot of progress that we’re making on our games. Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down into 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone.
But we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on that. It was a hard decision, but we have determined that this year we will not hold PlayStation Experience.
Layden then moved on to talk about social media, particularly the PlayStation Blog (which has been a big source of announcements lately). PlayStation plans to, in lieu of a PSX, leverage those tools to keep the community informed on what’s going on with the brand.
