The month of September is nearly over, and people are eagerly looking towards the horizon for next month’s batch of PS Plus free games. Sony announced that the free PlayStation Plus free games for October 2018 will include the multiplayer horror-survival game Friday the 13th, where players can either choose to be Jason Voorhees or the camp counselors attempting to escape and outwit him. The Instant Game Collection will also add Laser League, a fast-paced yet relatively simple multiplayer arcade title that is easy to pick up but hard to put down.
Friday the 13th comes to PS Plus despite the recent legal issues that the game has had, so don’t expect any new content to be added. “Not even a new tree or rock,” according to the developers. They are still focusing on console dedicated servers, bug fixes, and general maintenance, however, so the game being added with PlayStation Plus will still be a functional multiplayer experience. How appropriate that the horror game is added just in time for Halloween.
And that’s not all! This month, three of the four additional games are cross-buy with PS4, so even if you don’t have a PS3 or Vita, you get access to five games being added to the Instant Games Collection.
While it’s not always the case, the lists between North America and Europe are completely identical in October. That means everyone gets to enjoy the same games. The current games will go away on October 2, so players still have time to redeem games like Destiny 2, God of War III Remasterd, and more.
Here They Lie, the PSVR bonus that Sony added back in August will also be going away on October 2, with no replacement announced.
Finally, a PlayLink title called Knowledge is Power is still available for free through November 6. PlayLink titles require friends to play with and a companion app to use as a controller, but they can be extremely fun party games.
Here are the games both leaving and entering the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection next week on October 2, 2018 in North America and Europe:
Leaving the Instant Game Collection
- Destiny 2 (PS4)
- God of War III Remastered (PS4)
- Another World – 20th Anniversary Edition (PS3, Cross Buy with PS4 & Vita)
- QUBE Director’s Cut (PS3, Cross Buy with PS4)
- Sparkle 2 (PS Vita, Cross Buy with PS3 & PS4)
- Foul Play (PS Vita, Cross Buy with PS4)
- Here They Lie (PSVR)
Entering the Instant Game Collection in North America and Europe
- Friday the 13th (PS4)
- Laser League (PS4)
- Master Reboot (PS3)
- The Bridge (PS3, Cross Buy with PS4 & PS Vita)
- Rocketbirds 2: Evolution (PS Vita, Cross Buy with PS4)
- 2064 Read Only Memories (PS Vita, Cross Buy with PS4)
- Knowledge is Power (PS4/PlayLink)
These titles will become available on October 2, 2018. Until then, subscribers will still be able to redeem September’s line-up of titles. Once a title is redeemed, you can download and play it at any time as long as you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
Remember that Sony will stop offering PS3 and Vita titles in the Instant Game Collection in March 2019. At that time it’s unknown what–if anything–will replace those spots, but Sony’s continued offering of PSVR titles and games found in its PlayLink initiative could offer clues to the future of the service.
