Well, this is just sad. Three titles published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 will be losing access to online play in October 2018. The servers for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Twisted Metal, and Warhawk will all close on October 25, 2018.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was Sony’s attempt at making a brawler starring some of its most iconic characters. In our review, we called it “a tribute to the PlayStation fans that have supported the brand over the years.” It was basically the Sony response to Super Smash Bros. The servers will be closing for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions.
The other two PlayStation 3 games losing online access are notable. 2012’s Twisted Metal was a reboot of Sony’s iconic vehicular combat series. 2007’s Warhawk was a remake of a PlayStation classic.
These is only the latest games to have their online servers shut down. On September 25, 2018, it was announced that Drawn to Death, from David Jaffe (of Twisted Metal and God of War fame), will be closing its servers in 2019. The servers for Gravity Rush 2 were closed back in July 2018, only a little more than a year after launch.
Of course, this does not mean PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Twisted Metal, and Warhawk will be completely unplayable. They can still be played offline, both in single-player and multiplayer modes. However, it is still a blow to these games and the PS3 overall.
Are you upset by this news? Or is your PS3 long in the distance? Let us know!
