On the road to the release of Anthem, BioWare’s ambitious blend of RPG storytelling and multiplayer action, the company’s General Manager, Casey Hudson, has announced the game’s latest development milestone. Now in its alpha phase, Hudson has revealed in a very personal-tinted blog post that “every part of the game in in, and functioning.” For a game that has been in development and the subject of so many questions for so long, it must be reassuring to everyone involved that one of the biggest hurdles has been cleared.
Hudson expresses the most excitement not in reaching the milestone, but in seeing people sit down and play the game. He states that in watching members of the development team, company partners, and others working together in squads, if you will, reminds him of BioWare’s earliest days leading up to the release of the original Baldur’s Gate.
As the blog post continues, the obvious question is what’s next for Anthem in terms of development. All the pieces are in place, and now the team is moving on to making sure the pieces are in place as firmly as possible. Hudson says that now, the team can “almost entirely” move on to tasks like fixing bugs, testing the game, and of course fine-tuning it all. He doesn’t spill the beans on what “almost” means exactly, but goes on to talk about plans for the launch of Anthem and “beyond,” so that sounds like there’s some post-launch planning and tinkering moving forward as well.
Anthem is planned for release on February 22, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC.
