Season 6 of Fortnite certainly kicked off with a bang. Everything got spooky, you could adopt (super adorable) pets, and cross-play on the PS4 was finally enabled! One of the more significant additions was the introduction of the Shadow Stone. This new consumable item changes gameplay completely. Using one allows a player to enter “Shadow Form,” which temporarily makes them invisible. Unfortunately, the items are bugged, causing Epic Games to temporarily disable use of them.
Epic Games noted the issue on Twitter. The company statement said, “Due to an issue with Shadow Stones, we’re disabling them until we have a fix.” No timeline was provided.
In theory, the Fortnite Shadow Stones are supposed to make you invisible for a short time, allowing you to stealthily approach your enemies. The trade-off for this, however, is that in Shadow Form, you don’t have access to your weapons.
Unfortunately, some players found a glitch that allows them to exploit Shadow Form, which allowed weapons to be used. Unlike an item like the Rift-to-Go, which is only used for teleportation, the Shadow Stone adds an all-new mechanic to Fortnite. For example, it also lets you phase through walls at certain points.
Fortnite doesn’t do betas for its new additions and generally moves at a rapid pace, so its quite possible to have unforeseen issues pop up when such a substantial new addition is introduced. As of right now, we don’t know when the Shadow Stones will be brought back, although Epic is working on a solution. Epic Games also announced its intent to remove “embarrassing” boob physics from its battle royale smash.
