Sometimes we like to complain about the whole day one patch thing, because it can sometimes seem like developers and publishers use them as an excuse to print discs with unfinished games, regardless of the realities we aren’t always exposed to. Well, one such reality has been exposed, showing us that day one patches are just as useful for catching bizarre mistakes that happen because, well, we’re only human, and making AAA video games is kind of an inhuman task. The Tomb Raider fandom managed to discover that the latest game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, actually shipped with the incorrect post-credits ending scene in place, something that had to be addressed after the fact with a patch.
Once this scene was discovered, Square Enix sent out statements to its various “official fan sites,” one of the cooler efforts the publisher has made with the very dedicated Tomb Raider community. The statement said:
During the course of development on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, multiple post-credits scenes were explored. Unfortunately one of the directions that was considered, but not chosen, was mistakenly included in the game. The Day One patch fixes this error, along with many other improvements. As always, we highly recommend that our players install the patch to enjoy the complete and most up-to-date experience.
If you want to watch the unused ending, it was captured in high quality and can be viewed below. While it is an unused ending, it does still share a lot in common with the final ending.
