Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is going to have his work cut out for him when Marvel’s Spider-Man launches next month. In addition to revealing that more villains have yet to be announced and that the studio felt pressure to include and exclude certain characters, Insomniac Games may have accidentally spilled the beans on the next set of villains Spider-Man will go up against: the Sinister Six.
During a 20-minute gameplay demo for Marvel’s Spider-Man, Bryan Intihar, Insomniac Games’ Creative Director, allegedly confirmed that the Sinister Six will make an appearance in the game. The comment in the video, which can be viewed below, starts around the 15-minute mark. The video shows off some extensive gameplay, including traversal, stealth, web-slinging tricks, and a full playthrough of the opening mission. Your courtesy spoiler warning has been issued.
While Intihar supposedly confirmed the Sinister Six are in Marvel’s Spider-Man, he didn’t explicitly say how they’re used in-game, how many times you’ll encounter them, and whether or not they’re part of the game’s main narrative. He also didn’t give any details on how many members make up this iteration of the team of superbads. Considering every other villain confirmed for Marvel’s Spider-Man has been part of some iteration of the Sinister Six in Spider-Man history—with the exception of Mister Negative—it wouldn’t be surprising if all the villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man form a new version of the famed supervillain group. It’s worth noting that Marvel’s Spider-Man tells a completely original story not connected to the comics or any other Spider-Man movie or game.
Insomniac Games announced at the end of July 2018 that Marvel’s Spider-Man is now gold ahead of its September 7 release, so we won’t have to wait too much longer to see who else will be in the game. Currently, there are seven confirmed villains: Electro, Kingpin, Mister Negative, Rhino, Scorpion, Shocker, and Vulture. Marvel’s Spider-Man will also see Mary Jane and Miles Morales assist Peter Parker, although the extent of their involvement in the game’s full story is yet to be seen. We know from previews that Mary Jane will be playable.
Marvel’s Spider-Man will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on September 7, 2018.
