Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo has revealed in an interview with French site ActuGaming that a brand new Ys game is in development, and it’s after events of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA.
“Regarding the Ys series, we are working on a new game,” replied Kondo when asked if he had a message for Falcom’s fans. “It will not be a remake but a brand new title. It will be about Adol and it will be right after the events of Ys VIII. I hope you will look forward to it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Kondo discussed why Ys VIII is considered the series’ best entry point. He emphasized the importance of designing games to accommodate newcomers and veterans alike, and said that developers shouldn’t expect players to have prior knowledge of story and gameplay experience.
“The [Ys] series began at a time when a difficult game was considered a good game, however, Ys has this kindness that gives everyone the opportunity to finish the game.” added Kondo. “I think this feature is still inked in the series today.”
Ys VIII‘s PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions received positive reviews from critics. PlayStation LifeStyle’s Keri Honea noted in her review that it’s an improvement over its predecessors and offers an enjoyable adventure.
We’ll update our readers when we have more information about the upcoming title.
