Activision Drops Details on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s PlayStation-First Content Plans

call of duty black ops 4 ps4-first content

We’re not far from the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and with the Blackout mode beta test completed, it’s time to start looking ahead. Specifically, it’s time to look at Activision’s post-launch content plans for the game. Of course, Activision and Sony’s relationship is continuing with the new content released being timed exclusives for the PlayStation 4 version.

This deal continuing means that all content defined as “playable” added to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 after it releases will be coming to PlayStation 4 first, before it lands on other platforms. This includes, as explained in a new PlayStation Blog post, new specialists, new maps, and even seasonal in-game events.

Treyarch and Activision have stated plans for an “active calendar of events” that will continue to add free content, again PlayStation-first, across each of the game’s modes: Multiplayer, Zombies, and Blackout. The blog post includes some brief details on what this calendar of events can include:

  • Nuketown: This fan-favorite map returns in November in an all-new take.
  • Specialists: The first of several new characters will debut in December.
  • Blackout: Launch day is only the start; Blackout will continue to evolve after launch with regular map updates, expansions and new Blackout modes.
  • Events: Seasonal, weekly, and time-limited events bringing new game modes and content to players.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch on October 12, 2018.
